 Over the years, wire transfer has been the method of choice for fraudsters looking to get paid by their victims. Recently, however, there has been an uptick in consumer complaints to Fraud.org reporting that scammers are requesting the use of Green Dot MoneyPaks or Vanilla Reloads. These payment methods mean untraceable cash for fraudsters.
One victim -- we'll call him "Chris" -- recently shared his story with us:
"The man called my place of business to say that my previous payment on my bill didn't go through and that my business's electricity would be shut off that day. ... He requested that we pay by Green Dot MoneyPaks. He even called me back to make sure I was going to pay it. He said I would get a call in 30 minutes from [the] reimbursement center for the card fees. I then realized that this was a scam and it was too late."

TOKYO, Oct 10 - Japan's Nikkei share average fell for a fourth straight day on Friday, hitting a two-month low on concern about the global economy, and falling crude oil prices hurt oil shares. The Nikkei share average ended 1.2 percent down at 15,300.55, the lowest closing since Aug. 13. For the week, the benchmark dropped 2.6 percent. Japanese markets are closed on Monday for a national holiday. Oil shares underperformed, with Inpex Corp falling 4.9 percent, while Japan Petroleum Exploration Co fell
1.8 percent after Brent crude futures tumbled nearly $2 to below
$89 a barrel on Friday, trading at their weakest since 2010.
