 Over the years, wire transfer has been the method of choice for fraudsters looking to get paid by their victims. Recently, however, there has been an uptick in consumer complaints to Fraud.org reporting that scammers are requesting the use of Green Dot MoneyPaks or Vanilla Reloads. These payment methods mean untraceable cash for fraudsters.
One victim -- we'll call him "Chris" -- recently shared his story with us:
"The man called my place of business to say that my previous payment on my bill didn't go through and that my business's electricity would be shut off that day. ... He requested that we pay by Green Dot MoneyPaks. He even called me back to make sure I was going to pay it. He said I would get a call in 30 minutes from [the] reimbursement center for the card fees. I then realized that this was a scam and it was too late."

Five Big Banks Hit With $3.4 Billion Currency-Rigging Fines
Regulators have fined five global banks $3.4 billion for attempting to manipulate foreign exchange markets — the latest penalties for an industry criticized for rigging rates and triggering the financial crisis. The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the U.K. Financial Conduct Authority and the Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority said Citibank, JPMorgan Chase Bank, Royal Bank of Scotland, HSBC Bank and UBS had agreed to settlements totaling $3.4 billion.

TOKYO, Nov 12 - Japanese stocks gained on Wednesday, as investors gave the thumbs-up to a media report that Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will delay a second sales tax hike to avoiding damaging Japan's economic recovery, and call a snap election to cement his position. The Nikkei benchmark closed up 0.4 percent at 17,197.05, its highest since October 2007. Department store shares outperformed the market as the prospect of retailers avoiding damage to sales similar to that caused by April's tax hike boosted sentiment.
